Hijrat makers promise entertainment

 LAHORE:
The sudden rebirth of Pakistani cinema this year has encouraged film-makers to dapple in various themes. Debutante producer-director Farooq Mengal is another one to partake in this adventure, with his first film Hijrat.
Known in the drama circuit for producing and directing serials, Mengal’s film takes on the crucial   subject of internally-displaced Afghan refugee camps, with an added love story.

Model-turned-actor Asad Zaman, who is also making his debut with this film, plays the role of Murad – a young, happy-go-lucky person who finds himself thrown into the world of the internally-displaced where pain and agony is a normal, daily experience. It is under these circumstances that he falls in love with a field doctor Jia, played by model Rabia Butt, and is exposed to a different side of life. Zaman highlights that while the film addresses serious social and human rights issues, it is meant for sheer entertainment.
“The film is complete entertainment,” says Zaman, who plays the lead in the film. “It’s about a guy who is interested in having a good time and eventually finds out how unpredictable life is. But there isn’t one particular angle to his journey. The lesson is that one should not lose hope.

The film also stars veteran actor Nadeem Baig, Salma Agha and Mareeha Safdar. The music has been composed by Sahir Ali Bagga and the film will include songs by Ali Azmat, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Imran Aziz and Abida Parveen. Considering the big names, it seems that Mengal managed to put together a great team and Zaman acknowledges that. “It’s a team effort for sure; there was instant chemistry [on the sets],” he says.

Quetta-based director Mengal seems to have been working on the script and pre-production of the film for nearly a decade. The film has already shot its first spell in Quetta and is all set to shoot the second in Europe. It is aiming for a spring release next year, depending on whether the distributors are able to accommodate in terms of dates. However, production is expected to complete by early next year.

The first look of the film was released last week, and the Hijrat team is happy with the response it has received. Mengal is hopeful the audience will enjoy this feel-good story as well as Butt and Zaman’s chemistry. “This will be something that all audiences will enjoy. The intention is to make this something fun and spontaneous,” says Mengal.
As far as the revival of Pakistani cinema is concerned, it seems there is finally a ray of hope for those with projects like these. “We have a re-birth of sorts taking place. It was over before but now there are so many projects happening. New talent is getting a chance and even we are giving it our best,” says Zaman. “Film has always remained a huge medium that is looked at with seriousness,” he adds.

Which Fashion Career Is Right For You?

Blog By : adnan

Even if you’ve never done a sketch or sewn a button, you can have a career in fashion. Being a designer is obviously one of the most visible roles you can have in the industry, but talent and skill are required (don’t tell that to all the reality starlets trying launching clothing lines).
It’s a huge industry and there are a multitude of jobs available; you can find one to suit your temperament and talents. Here are a few suggestions and ideas for getting started (and keep in mind this is more of an overview than a comprehensive list):
Fashion Merchandising/Sales and Marketing: This is where design and business intersect. Designers ultimately need to get their product to the market. Merchandisers track and monitor fashion trends and consumer trends. A head for numbers and a ton of creativity are non-negotiable.
There are many options that fall under the “Merchandising” umbrella. Retail management is one. Lauren thinks this is an under-appreciated career path. You can make really decent money and get firsthand knowledge of a multitude of brands, marketing strategies, and how to manage people.
Buying is another route. This will require some years of experience on a retail floor and as a buyer’s assistant. I have a friend who started out selling shoes at Nordstorm in college and is now a jewelry buyer for them. Find a niche you love and learn everything about it.
Have an artsy, creative mind? Advertising, either on the corporate or retail side, might be for you. Advertising, in this age of quick media consumption, is the juggernaut that never stops. You can work at a corporate level (think of all the different brands that Gap and Limited Inc. own) or the retail level. (How does Macy’s move all those cosmetics?)
There are several fashion schools that offer Fashion Merchandising degrees–FIT in NYC is one–but a general business degree, retail experience, and carefully chosen internships can set you on the right path.
Production Management: This is front line of fashion. Production managers are responsible for getting textiles and clothing made at the manufacturing level. They work with suppliers and retailers to make sure a quality production.
This field has potential to be an exciting and challenging. This weekend the New York Timesreported about a growing movement towards “zero waste” production, where very little material goes unused. It’s a design as well as manufacturing challenge.
Everyone is interested in the magic formula of getting clothes produced cheaply but with a certain level of quality. The green movement is showing no signs of stopping, which adds another layer of challenge.
The decisions made at the production level can have long-reaching economic implications. The movement to keep these production in the US–like the grassroots efforts to sustain NYC’s Garment Center–is huge now.
Some fashion schools offer Production Management as a degree option. The job requires some business training and you should have a fascination with how things are made.
Visual Presentation/Styling: These are two separate though potentially overlapping professions. As far as styling, I don’t think I can articulate it any better than Sally Lyndley has just done. With the celebrity status of stylists like Rachel Zoe, it’s definitely a profession that is on the rise in terms of visibility. A degree isn’t totally necessary, but again, having some understanding of numbers, business, and communications is essential. And internships and networking are probably more important in styling than in the other professions.
Simon Doonan is, of course, the godfather (or fairy godmother) of visual presentation. Are you theatrical? Good with props? Creative? Welcome to your new career. Store windows are only one of many options for visual presentation. Museum exhibits, fashion shows, and showrooms all use this technique. The FIT degree description characterizes the profession perfectly: “They are storytellers in three dimensions, creating environments that inspire, inform, and persuade.” There are specialty degrees at art and fashion schools specifically for visual presentation.
Public Relations: PR is the middle man between a product and a retailer or consumer. PR reps are in charge of keeping a brand’s image squeaky clean and making sure people are talking about it. Their job is to make a brand seem appealing. A charming and friendly personality is an absolute must in this field. I adore most PR reps I’ve met because they seem absolutely and genuinely enthusiastic about their clients. It’s infectious, which is exactly the reaction you want to elicit. A degree in communications, marketing, or business–along with the all-important internships–will get you there.
Fashion Journalist: Love to write and love fashion? The opportunities to report and weigh in on what’s happening in the world of fashion have never been greater. Magazines are expanding their online presence and hiring bloggers to report up-to-the minute news. You can also write for e-commerce sites, PR firms, or trade publications.
But first and foremost you need to be a good writer. Consider a journalism or creative writing program, but at the very least take writing courses. I can tell you firsthand that the feedback you get from instructors is invaluable and can really up your game.
Write constantly. Blog for EVERYONE. Get clips however you can. Prove that you know the industry. You’ll need research and interviewing skills and you’ll need to network. Another thing I’ve learned is that the more “experts” you know in the industry, the easier your job of reporting will be.
Still unsure of which direction to take? Here are some easy things to do: Work in retail. Read industry publications–spring for a WWD subscription. Know the players in the industry. Read all the magazines and blogs. Shop! See what’s in the stores. Notice how online retailers market and sell things. Maybe something will inspire you.
Now go get yourself a career.

ANUPAMAA BY ANUPAMA DAYAL

Blog by : Adnan

The raison d’etre of Anupamaa is the revival of the ancient, almost forgotten hand printing and needlecraft techniques of India. Anupamaa’s style in vintage meets bold and western. The print stories are often eclectic and the philosophy is organic. One of her favorite techniques of ancient hand printing using wooden bocks are carved by hand based on Anupamaa’s hand drawn sketches. The blocks are then dipped into dyes and placed on silks and cottons.

An important role for the brand is ‘employment generation’ and our model is based on sustainable growth. We work directly and indirectly with craft people and several NGO’s to meet these goals as well.

The motto is to honour master skills in house, producing a product that is unique and intensely handcrafted but in keeping with international quality standards.

The perfect cup of tea: Here’s how you’re doing it wrong

Blog  by : Adnan

Tea: You're doing it wrong

Thought you knew how to make the perfect cuppa? Think again.
Painstaking research into the matter has concluded that we Brits are extremely particular about how to make tea and whilst that might seem like a statement of the bleeding obvious, apparently the methodology for getting tea ‘just right’ isn’t quite so clear to everyone. Just in case you’re doing it wrong, read ahead…
A new study quizzed 620 Brits on their tea preferences to help them come up with a foolproof formula and 64 per cent agreed that a teapot would be ideal, with 35 per cent happy to use a mug. Just one per cent opted for a tea infuser.
Just under a half, 47 per cent, love to sip their tea from a china mug, with 34 per cent opting for the traditional cup and saucer. Almost one in five, 19 per cent, would use a mug.
For the perfect cuppa, the majority, 71 per cent, agreed loose tea would be their preferred choice. Many commented that loose tea reminded them of their childhood, in particular having tea with grandparents.
For 29 per cent, a teabag was preferred, with many confessing they’d never used loose tea and had no idea what all the fuss was about.
Almost a half, 48 per cent said between two to three minutes was the perfect length of time for the loose tea in the teapot to brew, with 41 per cent opting for one to two minutes.
The nine per cent who liked their tea strong said over three minutes was the preferred option for them, with just two per cent saying under a minute was ideal.
Asked whether they’d add the milk before or after pouring, for the perfect cup of tea 62 per cent agreed on the milk going in first.
A spokesperson for CheapHolidayLand.com, who conducted the survey, said: ‘Making the ideal cup of tea is a fine art – the best thing to do is ask people how they like it and follow their instructions as best as you can.’

Men Should Know Who Raf Simons Is

Blog by : adnan

Here's Raf Simons in a nutshell: The Belgian designer has garnered a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim for proving time and again that—despite being 45—he knows how to make clothes that encapsulate the spirit of youth in rebellion. When you look at his collections, especially his most recent (actually an entire collaboration with American artist Sterling Ruby), you can see bits and pieces of stuff you'd actually add to your wardrobe while still admiring the spectacle of it all. And "spectacle" is the key word here, because I know that when the average guy sees a fashion show, he's not quite sure what he's supposed to be looking at.
But what makes Simons so talented is that he can easily translate his vision into covetable menswear, from slim-cut trousers to casual clothes like graphic sweatshirts and bomber jackets—something of a Simons staple. This particular collaboration with Sterling Ruby amps up the cultural aspect of the collection. Ruby and Simons have a longstanding mutualistic relationship. Known for his large installations and spray-painted canvasses, Ruby's also designed the interior of Simons' Tokyo store, and before this collection, Simons featured Ruby's art on some of his designs at Dior.
What you're really looking for when you see something like Raf Simon /Sterling Ruby Fall-Winter 2014 are the gems that speak out to you, whether it's a camo overcoat or a bright green sweater with fabric patches. The American flag backdrop? The cartoonish chunky shoes? Those are merely there to provide an ambience, to remind everyone who thinks that "it's all just clothes" that there's real genius going on here. I mean technically, what you're looking at is a wearable art show. And we've already told you that art is worth investing in.

3 Cool Hair Color for Men Ideas

Blog By : Adnan

There is so much more more to dyeing hair for men than covering grey! Add chunky streaks or all over color to update your look! Check out these pictures for 3 cool hair color for men ideas to try today!

Hair Color Ideas for Men 3 Cool Hair Color for Men Ideas

A no risk way to try out hair color for men is with one bold streak somewhere along the hairline. It’s low commitment and looks great with every hairstyle, from spiked to slicked to curly. With one contrasting chunk of hair, feel free to experiment with colors you wouldn’t to dye your whole head – like this platinum streak against darker hair or bright.

This highlight for men is easy to do yourself. Just choose a color or bleach 3 Cool Hair Color for Men Ideas, mix the product according to instructions, and apply to the desired section of hair. If you’ve chosen something behind the hairline, cut a hole in a shower cap and pull hair through to isolate the hair to be dyed from the rest of the head. For a streak at the front, simply separate hair and wrap the finished product in tin foil, which also speeds up the dying process.

A different on take on the bold streak is to highlight a chunk of hair that emphasizes your signature hairstyle. For this wide faux hawk, one side of the triangle is light blonde, exaggerating the angle of spiked hair. On the other side, another broad darker streak adds a lowlight to dark hair.

Mens Hair Dye 3 Cool Hair Color for Men Ideas

All over color is another option for men looking for a change. This can be to eliminate grey with the number one men’s hair dye, Just for Men 3 Cool Hair Color for Men Ideas, or do something completely different with dark or light hair.
Dying hair brown or auburn is especially noticeable with dark Asian hair. For black hair, this will be a two-step process, first lightening hair and then adding color. This can be damaging and is best left in the hands of professionals. If you don’t want to maintain the color, just grow hair out for a month or two and embrace a crew cut or for longer hair, get your colorist to revert back to dark hair to bypass any skunky growing out phase
